The Dewback Ridge Squad (DRS) was recognized officially
as a squad of the Mountain Garrison in March of 2006. Breaking off
of Pikes Peak Squad which used to cover every thing in Colorado South
of Colorado Springs and New Mexico. The Dewback Ridge Squad is now
charged with the protection of all of New Mexico from the evil Rebel
Alliance.
During the short time of squad hood the DRS has been given names such as the rabbit squad due to their rapid growth from no troopers in New Mexico 2004 to now over 40 members strong today with the largest pockets of troopers in the Albuquerque and Las Cruces areas. There are a few Annual troops that the DRS does not miss, The first being the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer charity walk. There has been a 501st Presence at this event since 2006. The event usually takes place in April. Most 501st groups have at least one annual convention that they attend regularly and the DRS is no exception. Bubonicon is the local convention were the DRS does a Droid hunt and hangs around all weekend and usually puts on a panel or two. The Convention is the Weekend before Labor Day Weekend. When the Darth Vader Balloon is at the Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta then you can expect the Dewback Ridge Squad (and other Legion members) to be there every chilly october morning as well. To round out the year the Squad kicks it in to high gear trooping at least 3 weekends in a row for Toys for Tots starting on Black Friday. There are many many more troops that the Dewback Ridge Squad participates in every year. In the year of 2008 The DRS made over 60 appearances across the state of New Mexico and doesn't show any sign of slowing down.
